Generally, however, as long as would-be COs follow certain prescribed steps (usually including registering themselves in some fashion) and avoid doing things like withholding the part of their Federal income taxes that would otherwise go to support the national military budget, they receive official and governmental toleration and some measure of protection from unsanctioned acts of violence on the part of inflamed crowds.

The same would probably be true of legally recognized same-sex unions. Some faith traditions will refuse to recognize or sanction any such couples – to the point of expelling them from the congregation and/or denying them participation in the life of the congregation. This is their right. Other groups, however, will welcome and affirm such individuals, as is their legal right, and any trouble – if it comes – will be due to the actions of minority groups that refuse to acknowledge the civil law of the land and try to force everyone else in the country to abide by their value system, a pattern which has occurred more than once in American history.
David Teaguehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01258427025602068895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5741778026488235834.post-49828323006009277872013-05-14T15:31:59.200-04:002013-05-14T15:31:59.200-04:00so true and it seems it takes so little effort to ...so true and it seems it takes so little effort to see the lessons... Just as the little boy that cried wolf was no longer believed when true danger appeared, our endless need to push forth forgiveness and acceptance without depth and compassionate backing each take us a step further to losing the meaning and value of such extensions. Like the parent who praises every moment of a child's life, even when no true accomplishment has been achieved, often finds themselves with a person who doesn't value the praise, but expects it. Forgiveness is a gift that should be considered before being bestowed. Well said, my friend, and much needed.Connie Chesnernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5741778026488235834.post-53447751372098113682013-04-22T19:54:20.265-04:002013-04-22T19:54:20.265-04:00What a wise young woman.
